Kermit Lincoln Breed was born and
raised in the close-knit community of
Fabius, New York. The youngest of
eight, Kermit was an avid athlete and
loyal friend, dedicating himself to
baseball, golf, volleyball, soccer, and
the people around him. After high
school, Kermit attended Clarkson
University, earning himself a Master's
in Business Administration. He then
landed a job at Johnson Controls and
relocated to Boston.
Kermit was diagnosed with Stage IV
colorectal cancer in June of 2004 at the age
of 26. With the help of his friends and
family, he underwent major surgery, moved
back to Fabius, and received chemotherapy
and radiation to treat his cancer. Kermit was
re-diagnosed in 2006 and pushed through
more surgeries, more chemotherapy, and
more radiation. Fighting hard until his last
minute, Kermit died on January 26, 2009.
Kermit was a friend and inspiration to
everyone he met. Despite his health
setbacks, Kermit retained a love of life and
enviable amount of energy. In the years
following his diagnosis, Kermit traveled the
country, went to Europe, played softball,
became an uncle several times over again,
made new friends, snowshoed, skied,
sailed, got married, and let loose his
trademark laugh daily. We live now
emulating his unique spirit, always pushing
forward and gracefully accepting the
challenges that face us.
